How to Enable Content Tamper Detection App

Evidence tampering is a criminal offense. It is an act in which a person alters, falsifies, or conceals evidence with the intent to interfere with an investigation process being monitored by law enforcement, government or regulatory authority. To help detect Evidence integrity, VIDIZMO provides Tamper Detection functionality in its Digital Evidence Management (DEM) system.

Content tamper detection works in a way that, when evidence is uploaded, its hash is stored in the database. Whenever an authorized user verifies that evidence, a new hash is generated and compared to the one stored earlier. If both hashes are found to be the exact same, the evidence is marked as Un-tampered, and Tampered in the other case. See: How to Detect if an Evidence has been Tampered.

To learn about Content Tamper Detection, see: Understanding Evidence Tamper Detection.

Prerequisites

  • Ensure you belong to a group with the Tamper Verification and App Management features enabled.

Enable Evidence Tamper Detection

  1. Select the Navigation Menu on the top left corner.
  2. Select the Admin tab.
  3. Select Portal Settings.
  4. Go to Apps > Content Processing.
  5. Enable the toggle for Tamper Verification.

A confirmation message displays: Portal Information Updated Successfully.

NOTE: Tamper detection starts working on newly uploaded media once the app is enabled. It does not identify content tampered before enabling this application, since the hashes were not stored at that time. To use content tamper detection on previously uploaded content, run content tamper detection on each content file individually. To learn more, see: Understanding Evidence Tamper Detection
